Counterfeit cosmetic products are no laughing matter. Authorities advise discretion against purchasing fake products that are proliferating online at cheaper costs than the real deal.
When I was a student, with little to zero money in the bank, I was one of the fans of cheap makeup products, thinking I was getting something similar for more than half the price. Who am I kidding? After so many reports about fake makeup incidents - inflammations, allergies, severe infection and so on - I knew I had to answer to the wake-up call. But, instead of fully turning my back from online beauty products, I decided to look for a cosmetic shop in Singapore that offers not only authentic beauty items but ones with the most reasonable prices as well. TANGS, as I’ve found out through my friend, is an online shopping haven that raises the bar in retail, with its well-curated and diverse range of products from clothing, home appliances, kitchenware, travel accessories, seasonal items and basically everything under the sun. However, I’m not after the idea that TANG is a one-stop shop for avid online shoppers like me, but rather the fact that it carries high-end cosmetic products such as Bobbi Brown, Yves Saint Laurent Beaute and Clinique to name a few. What’s even better is that regularly, TANGS offer them at discounted prices, sometimes way cheaper than the ones sold at their respective websites! How technology shapes the cosmetics industry The rise of online shopping has changed the way we buy everything from groceries, clothes to cosmetics. But, while purchasing online offers far more conveniences than in-store, it has not always been a safe option, particularly for cosmetics. While an online seller may insist that their products are safe and free of toxic substances, there’s no way to be sure that they’re not. So, the best thing you can do is to look for HSA (Health Sciences Authority) approved products that guarantee they are free from toxins and harmful chemicals. It’s also wise to find a reputable online cosmetic shop in Singapore that are authorised by brands as their resellers. It’s just a good thing that an increasing number of cosmetic brands are one with our battle against counterfeit products. For instance, MAC continues to educate its consumers by directing them towards authorised stores, opening hotlines for disclosing counterfeits and taking legal actions to bring down sites that retail fake cosmetics. As for other brands like Kylie Cosmetics, Benefit and L’Oreal, they inform their customers where they could purchase their products. We still have a long way to go before we’re a hundred percent sure that we’re buying legitimate products. But, as long as you purchase from authorised Singapore cosmetic shops such as TANGS, then you have nothing to worry about!
